Clayhall Synagogue's Mitzvah Day Project was to renovate a sensory garden at ELHAP, an adventure playground for children, young people and adults with additional needs. Thirty five volunteers turned out throughout the day to paint, dig, plant and decorate. With the arrival of Norman Goldberg's homemade latkes and plenty of tea and coffee to sustain us through the day we managed to create a wonderful, peaceful and stimulating garden. Fiona Sapler, the MItzvah Day co-ordinator explained 'We arrived to find a desolate overgrown piece of land which was underused, and left a beautiful, interesting space which we hope will be enjoyed for a long time to come. The project has also helped us forge a strong bond with ELHAP and we hope to return regularly to help them maintain the garden. Thank you to everyone for their hard work and to the ELHAP staff for making us so welcome. |
